2. Using the teeth to open things

Using the teeth to open things like packages places pressure on the teeth and the jaw. This pressure leads to more TMJ pain. If the teeth are used to cut things like string or plastic, the back-and-forth sawing motion will aggravate the jaw even more.

3. Grinding or clenching teeth

Anytime someone clenches or grinds their teeth, it places a lot of pressure on the jaw. This pressure places a lot of stress on the jaw and jaw area, which often leads to more TMJ-related pain.

4. Eating high impact foods

There is a list of chewy, hard and/or crunchy foods that can make TMJ pain worse. This list includes but is not limited to popcorn, crackers, apples, raw carrots, raw celery, corn on the cob, cookies, taffy, caramels and meats.
